FAQ's

Q: How do I make an appointment?

A: Either call Serena & the reception team on 01869 241411 Bicester or 01242420810 for Cheltenham  (or any member of the team) who will book you in with your chosen therapist at a time and date that suits you. We guarantee that you will be offered an appointment within a week of your call. Or, you can email info@peagreenphysio.co.uk and request available appointment times, specifying which therapy you would like. eg. physiotherapy, Shockwave, Women’s health, Sports Therapy or Massage (and, if you know, how long you would like your appointment for).

Q: When can I book my appointment?

A: Practice hours vary but appointments are generally available Monday to Saturday 8am until 8pm. Earlier and later appointments are available upon request. Please call Serena to arrange these.

Q: What will happen at my first appointment?

A: You’ll be asked to fill out an Intake Form, including emergency contact details, your GP and referring doctor/consultant, any insurance details and a consent declaration (don’t worry it’s quite simple really).

This will be followed by a thorough examination and assessment of your problem area by your chosen therapist. Where possible the therapists try to keep you as clothed as possible (and warm and comfortable) but you may need to remove clothing to expose the area of pain so that it can be thoroughly assessed (please wear appropriate underwear in readiness for this). Treatment will often be given at the first appointment, if time allows.

Subsequent appointments will build on the diagnosis and progress of the first appointment. Your treating therapist will discuss ways that you can play an active participant in your own rehabilitation and, where possible, be shown how to prevent recurrence of the problem.

What does my appointment time include? What to expect …

An Initial Assessment 45 min to 60 mins will include any intake forms and consent forms that have not been done prior to your appointment, the first 20-30 minutes will be for medical history taking, the final 15-25 mins will be for a physical assessment and if time a treatment will be included. The final 5 mins are for writing your Medical notes. Any reports/letters/referrals and rehab programs will be written during your consultation time, booking your next appointment and payment.

If you’d prefer your reports/letters/referrals and bespoke rehab program to be done outside of your allocated treatment time, there will be a separate fee of £25 per letter/report/referral/bespoke rehab program to be written. Medical notes MUST be written during your consultation time.

Q: What might the treatment consist of?

A: At Pea Green we are very hands-on with your consent; this is what makes our treatments so different and so effective. We will use techniques such as manipulation and mobilisation, deep tissue massage, trigger points, myofascial release, neural mobilisation and a whole range of stretches as appropriate. Where necessary we may also use acupuncture, Pilates, electrotherapy,, ultrasound or interferential, combined therapy, radio frequency and strength & conditioning. We will support each treatment with exercise plans, self-management advice, and a full rehabilitation programme.

A Follow Up 30 minute consultation, will include a quick catch up to see how you’ve been and a quick physical assessment of you objective measures (5 mins), treatment (20 mins) and medical notes to be written during your consultation, booking your next appointment and payment.

A Petit Pois 20 minute consultation, will include a quick catch up to see how you’ve been and a quick physical assessment of you objective measures (5 mins), treatment (10-15 mins) and medical notes to be written during your consultation, booking your next appointment and payment.

Q: How do I pay?

A: Payments can be made by any major credit/debit card. We do not currently accept American Express/AMEX. We no longer accept cash or cheques. Insurance companies are invoiced directly by the clinic, subject to your individual policy details. If an excess is due, this will need to be settled directly with Pea Green Physio (please ask for more information).

Q: Do I need a GP referral?

A: Not usually, unless your own private health insurance requires it. In most cases you can self-refer. We work closely with GPs and hospital consultants (both NHS and private) and are recognised by all of the major health insurance companies.

Q: What is deep tissue mobilisation?

A: Deep tissue mobilisation involves the application of manual techniques such as pressure, compression, bending, longitudinal gliding, cross fibre work, deep transverse frictions, specific soft tissue mobilisation, kneading, stretching and rolling the tissue and myofascial release techniques (you did ask). The aim of deep tissue mobilisation is to stretch and release the soft tissue of the body and is an essential part of curing most musculoskeletal injuries.

Q: What is soft tissue?

A: The soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and fascia (a loose to dense fibroelastic connective tissue that is found throughout the body from the head, face, neck and trunk to the arms and legs).

Q: Is it important to bring X-Rays or other results to the physiotherapy appointment?

A: Yes, if you have X-Rays, MRI, CT Scans, bone scan reports or blood analysis results, please bring them with you as this will assist us in formulating the most appropriate treatment. We can also refer patients privately for additional scans and tests if further investigation is appropriate (including referrals to Chelthenham Imaging Centre, or Inhealth in Milton Keynes.

If we need to refer you on for an MRI, there is a £10 fee for an MRI request form to be completed and submitted.

If we agree to refer you onto a Consultant, there is a separate charge (£25) for any reports or letters written outside of your consultation time. This can be done during your consultation time, but this will reduce the treatment time available. Some patients prefer for this to be done outside of their treatment consultation time. In this instance there is the additional £25 charge.

Q: How long does a physiotherapy appointment last?

A: An initial assessment and treatment usually lasts 45-60 minutes to one hour upon request for complex cases, and follow up sessions can be between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on the treatment required. We do also offer 90 minutes for more complex cases.

Q: Is the cost of physiotherapy covered by extended medical benefits?

A: Extended medical benefits usually cover a portion of physiotherapy fees. We suggest that you check your individual plan for specific details and annual maximums, excesses and the number of sessions authorised. Not all insurance companies pay for additional products or supports, so it is always best to check first.

Q: What is the policy for cancellation and missed appointments at Pea Green Physio?

A: Charges for missed appointments and cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be made at a reduced fee of £35.00.

We don’t like to do this, due to our waiting lists, we try to discourage last minute cancellations. However, life does happen sometimes and can be out of our control, we do understand this. But, please, where possible, please provide more than 24hours notice for cancellations or changes to your appointment.
